my girl, rachel :)

this is rachel. SHE IS: always happy.

SHE IS: a great friend.

SHE IS: beautiful.

SHE IS: super athletic.

SHE IS: amazing with children.

SHE IS: only 16.

SHE IS: brave.

SHE IS: really smart.

SHE IS: part of a wonderful family.

SHE IS: a middle child. little sister, erin and older sister, megan.

SHE IS: part of a super close group of girls.  they are juniors in high school.

morgan, erin m, erin n, and alex.

SHE IS: an extrovert around her friends, but an introvert around strangers.

SHE IS: selfless in donating her hair to locks of love.

SHE IS: also very sick with stage 4b hodgkins lymphoma cancer. :( :(

Two weeks ago, Rachel called me. She was crying to the point I couldn’t understand her words.  She muffled, “I have cancer.” As any person would do,

I welded with tears. I asked her to repeat herself because I was sure I didn’t hear her correctly.  She said it again, “I have hodgkins cancer. I just got out

of the hospital, and they aren’t sure how bad it is yet.”  My jaw dropped, my heart sunk, and the lump in my throat kept words from coming out. What

the hell was I supposed to say? What do I do? The girl who I’ve watched grow up over the years playing soccer year round for me…the girl who’d text

me randomly to stop by and visit us…..has cancer?! I said the only thing I knew to say…”you’ll get through this.”

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind for her. She’s already had a couple surgeries, one on her neck, one on her chest.  She’s been in the hospital

since 8/23 and will probably be in saturday. Because of her multiple allergies, she’s had some complications. But friday, she successfully finished

her first day of chemo. At 16 years old…she finished her first day of chemo. It just seems so unfair. :( I have promised her that I will document this

journey, so soon enough she can look back on all the photographs and show people how she kicked cancer’s ass.  We started with updating family pics

and her senior pics because next year her hair probably won’t be the length she wants it to be for photos. the next day she cut off her hair so she

could donate it before the chunks start falling out. how sweet is that? she’s amazing.  When i hung up the phone that night, it clicked. THIS

was the reason God brought ray, into my life…not just to help our team win all those games! ;)

The image below is the last picture I took that day.  I’ve explained on the blog before how I envision God as “light.” When I looked at the back of

the camera I got goosebumps, then smiled. :-D I realized right then, that God was with her.  The image speaks so much by itself.

If you are on facebook, you can become a fan of a page I’ve created for her. It’s called TEAM RACHEL. Maybe you know someone that has

survived hodgkins and can give her hope, or you maybe you can just leave a message or comment to help her get through this.

Keep that strong and postivie attitude and you’ll do great! Just remember, every time they inject meds into your veins, it’s super powers! :)

We love you girl. heart, mel, adam, and your favorite baby girl ;) nori.

felicia.

felicia is a senior this year. :)

she’s quite beautiful. Melanie’s favorite.

i couldn’t wait for the right light for this shot. i knew her hair would illuminate PERFECTLY!!

she must have boys lining up at her door.

i love how in any session…about half way through, the client suddenly  goes from, “i feel awkward and self conscious” to, “i kinda

like this!”  and out of nowhere they are confident and relaxed.

now THAT’S what i’m talkin’ bout giiiirl!!!

hello blue eyed, blonde haired, skinny mini. :-D

you like the rainbow that snuck into my frame?? I DOOOO!!!

we wandered around northside. at first mom and dad were thinkin, REALLY? soon, they were spotting all sorts of cool textures:)

kinda corny. but we thought it was cute. :) 2010 gradumakit. :) its better then the huge white plaster numbers, right??

adam’s fav.

felicia, tons of luck to ya this year. mom and dad, we wish YOU luck when THIS beauty leaves for college!! :)

we had a great time with the three of you! heart, melanie and adam.

ps. i think you’re ready for america’s next top model. just don’t forget us back here in Nati, when you’re famous!

molly.

meet molly.

this was her first session…september 14th. remember that day? on the way downtown we found it odd how trees were literally in the street. shingles flying everywhere…but of coarse we said,

this is like the twillight zone, but it’ll stop, lets go anyway! lol. we’re really smart.

her hair spent most the time in her face… and all the dirt and glass on the ground around her was in our eyes, mouth, and whipping against our legs. so we headed to an alley where it wasn’t as open and little tornados wouldn’t form. wellll…

we took like 3 shots in the alley and something told me we should move. got like 10 feet away and heard the loudest crash. apparently it was the roof seperating from the building!! under the rumble is a picnic table. thats where molly was sitting

about a minute before this happened. thank you guardian angels.  and by the way, you’d think we’d book it…no we ventured around and snapped some more pics. iddddiots!!! when we got home, the news team reported in front of this alley, because

at the time, it was one of the most dramatic things that happened. a couple hours later was when a massive tree decided to take residence in our friend’s bedroom. (they still aren’t moved back in. still rehabbing the damage!!)

so we rescheduled. :)

adam’s favorite.

what’s up hotness? ;-)

molly thought she struggled making the ‘no smile face’ because if you know molly, all she does IS SMILE!! i think she did great.

camera1 (melanie’s favorite)

camera2

i was a little concerned her senior portraits became hollister ads. :)

giiiirl, did i hurt when you feel from heaven? (hehehe)

the swings to the left of her were being used by a young couple. the guy was like a wanna be dane cook. so he got her to laugh pretty hard. BUT, it was a little uncomfortable.

i dont think he even took a breathe between his one liners.

molly is the baby in her family of 7. sorry mare-bear, not so baby anymore :-/

adam and eric (his twin) have been like the adair children number 6 & 7 for almost 15yrs.  anna and molly have always seen them as big bro’s.  they are a great family and it’s been a privelage to

get to know them the past 6+ yrs. cheers to mike and mary for raising a beautiful bunch of kids.
